A love story with a flavour of exoticism.
Into each opera theatre and opera ensemble essentially belongs a fixed star of the operatic dramaturgy which creates an unshakable base of the operatic repertoire in the worldwide context. One of such titles is the opera Aida, composed by a famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, and which is presented by the ensemble of the Liberec opera in the F. Šalda Theatre as its last premiere of the year 2015. Opera Aida had its first performance on 24 December 1871 in the Teatro dell'Opera in Cairo. The composition originated on the order of the Egyptian government for the ceremonial opening of the Suez Canal, and namely in a record time of four months. The composer being fifty-eight years old presents here a work full of musical imagination, where we become acquainted with Egyptian reality and history, and together with the librettist Antonio Ghislanzoni, who was inspired by the story written Edward Mariette, shows a tale set in Thebes and Memphis during the reign of the pharaohs. On the background of the historical and political fresco we can watch a personal drama of two women, one - the Ethiopian slave Aida, the other - the daughter of the Egyptian king Amneris and the Egyptian commander Radames. We can follow a story transcending the borders of continents, a story touching the basic desires of every human being, regardless of their social status, a tale about people who, thanks to their feelings, acts, prove colourfulness and “richness of layers”, which can be found in operatic literature. We present the opera in Italian with Czech subtitles.
