Milan Kundera is probably the most significant living Czech author. He was already a star in Prague in the 1960s, but in Paris, where he emigrated in the following decade, he achieved literally a world fame. The comedy Jacques and His Master has a subtitle Tribute to Denis Diderot, whose Jacques the Fatalist became an inspiration for his play. How is it with human fates and human freedom? A lord is asking Jacques: "Are you such a silly man because it's written up there? Or is it written up there because it was known about you that you were a silly man? What is the cause and what is the result? " Love stories from the life of Jacques and his lord are full of irony. Is it a coincidence or is anybody laughing at us up there? Where do we go from and where to... One of the best comedies, which were written in the 20th century.
