One of the most often played Shakespeare´s comedies came into existence in the years 1593-4. Catherine, a daughter from a good house should get married, but nobody wants her because she is rebellious, furious, cheeky, ungovernable, in brief, troublesome. Suitors are more interested in her sister Bianka who behaves just as it is suitable for a decent girl. She must not get married before there is reached success in marrying her sister Catherine. However, there appears one determined wooer, Petruccio, who offers himself as a groom. Nevertheless, he does not do it only from love or a sudden outburst. His motives are neither pure nor selfless in any way. But both protagonists get changed in the course of their courtship. In the following courtship and Catherine´s getting trapped, the author opened, in a comic style, the whole topic of a polarity between a man and a woman, the whole scale of questions on the subject who a man is and who a woman is, and what their relationship can, in fact, be like, questions unanswered until today. Even Shakespeare did not respond to questions which he raised, but he left them for pondering to the amused viewer. Though the end untangled the plot, the spectator himself must seek answers to the given questions. Shakespeare's most successful comedy gives an excellent opportunity not only to the unconventional main pair, but also to many other actors. It also offers an excellent entertainment to the spectators, and a pleasant stimulus for contemplating.
