Classical Czech opera.
The opera Rusalka was based on the libretto by the poet J. Kvapil. Along with the airiness and luminosity of sound colours of the score, a fabulous but also very strong and dramatic work came to an existence. This opera is the supreme work by Dvořák, and it belongs to the highlights of the Czech opera creation. Rusalka, together with Smetana’s Bartered Bride, is the most often played Czech opera.
